How to Select an Abs Machine
There is a
lot of junk floating around the market as far as ab machines are concerned. It's easy to filter
out the worst of the worst -- these are the ones that promise you flat, washboard and/or sixpack stomachs for only a minute or two of exercise
a day. Get real.
Unfortunately, many people buy into this hype because they wish it were true -- if only it were that
easy! I have to admit it is hard to resist the urge to purchase one of these things, especially
when you watch a perfectly shot infommercial that highlights all the perfect aspects in a perfect environment with perfect
outcomes.
Meanwhile,
back in the real world, it doesn't usually work with that. First of all, remember that the claims
made by abs machines are generally "best case scenarios". How often do best case scenarios happen
in your life? Rarely.
Maybe the
whole approach is wrong -- the idea that you should simply work your abs to reduce the fat in your stomach is kind of
ridiculous. How did they get fat in the first place? Usually from a poor diet. So it makes sense that if you
really want to get the most out of any abs machine, you have to combine it with the proper diet.
In addition,
you must avoid an abs machine that hurts the back or the neck. Many people focus on the abs, only
at the sacrifice of other parts of the body. If you want to purchase any abs machine, at least
read a review on it first to see if people are complaining about soreness in their neck or back.
If they are, skip that abs machine.
There is one
model I have found that does not hurt the back or neck, and is excellent for the abs. It is the
ProForm Abs Machine. If you go to their website and look at a picture of it, you will notice that it is designed differently than most abs
machines. In fact, it has the ability to work much more than your abs.
This is
important, because spot reductions do not work. In order to reduce the fat in any one area of
your body, you have to reduce the total amount of fat on your body. Your muscles don't become fat
because they are weak. They become fat basically because of your calorie intake. The more muscle mass you have on your body, the more calories you will burn at rest.
Keep all this
in mind when selecting an abs machine.
