Proform Recoil Strength System Review

Proform recoil strength training system reviewed

There are many things that make the proform recoil strength training system attractive.  Perhaps the best feature is its price -- it usually retails for under $300.  This is definitely on the low end when it comes to strength training systems.  However, sometimes you get what you pay for.  Is the proform recoil strength training system a bargain for the price, or is it just a cheap piece of fitness equipment that doesn't deliver a good workout?  that is what we will discuss in this review.

The recoil promises you a full body workout.  Resistance is provided by resistance rods, and it comes with 240 pounds of resistance.  For additional $75 you can upgrade to 340 pounds of resistance.  While 240 pounds resistance may sound like a lot, when you start to exercise your legs you will probably find that you will want the extra resistance.

Typically cheaper strength training systems are not well constructed.  In order to alleviate your concerns, the recoil comes with a five year warranty.  This is uncommon for machines in this price range.  I guess the warranty is supposed to assure you that the machine is well constructed.  I personally was not impressed by its construction. That wasn't the only source of my dissatisfaction.

The way the resistance rods work are simply inconvenient.  In order to set it up right, you have to put the heaviest rod on first.  The problem is if it is too heavy, then you have to take off all of the rods, and make the adjustment to redo the level of resistance.  And just getting the resistance bars on is no simple task thanks to the awkward design of the recoil.

While it wasn't too hard to perform a variety of different exercises on the recoil system, I found that some of them were just plain uncomfortable.  The squats were probably the worst.  Which is unfortunate, because squats are some of my favorite exercises.

Do not let the cheap price fool you -- you do not even get what you pay for with the recoil.  There are other strength systems on the market that are a better deal.  Sure, they're likely to cost more -- but you will save in convenience and comfort.

My final thoughts are this -- do not be tempted by the recoil strength training system.  If you have to save up another month to purchase something better, do it!
